Qvantum Energi: Smart Heating Ecosystem

Qvantum, a well-established Swedish heat pump manufacturer, recently entered the consumer market with connected heat pumps for smart homes.

I was working with the app team to improve the newly released app for home owners that use it to control their heat pump.

A lot of the work was done as field work, where i conducted interviews with the users and technicians. I also participated in residential heat pump installations to observe where there might be pain points and ultimately see where i could make improvements to the app and their ways of working.

On Device Touch Display

The round touch display on the Qvantum main units is a small but powerful interface. Home owners can control their heat pump directly through this display.

Although the Qvantum phone app is the preferred way to control the heat pump, some users might prefer the touch display instead.

My task was to transfer the improvements we made to the phone app into the display app. A challenging task.

I was able to test my designs directly on the factory floor units and have users test it as well to make sure we nailed the experience.

After-Market Support Ecosystem

Qvantum needed a way to remotely monitor and manage heat pumps. The goal was to build a tool that helps the after-sales team troubleshoot issues and support installers without needing to be on-site.

Process

I started by interviewing the support team to understand their daily pain points. Based on those insights, I mapped out the user flows and moved into wireframing and prototyping. I worked closely with developers throughout the build to ensure the final product matched the design intent.

Deliverables

  • Feature strategy and functional requirements.
  • User flows for single and multi-unit installations.
  • UI design for a web dashboard, consumer app, and factory software.

Outcome

We launched a web-based dashboard that allows the team to troubleshoot and control heat pumps remotely. This drastically reduced response times and improved overall operational efficiency.
